Harpenden, Hertfordshire has 4 surviving Air Raid shelters built on the advent of the Second World War, all constructed using precast concrete. All shelters are split into "legs" - a common design to maximize protection so that not all sections should suffer in the event of a direct hit by enemy bombs.
Weston Media worked with the local council & Harpenden based Surveyors, Plowman Craven to get access to create a digital record of the 4 shelters, given that over the time, the shelters have fallen into disrepair and may soon be filled in for safety & cost reasons. Using Matterport technology we are able to capture and digitally preserve these wartime shelters, so that they can be used for educational purposes, as well as a record for the future.
